Children Soldiers

I think the practice of using children soldiers is wrong in many countries but I mean in China, it wouldn't be as bad because the population is outrageous. Also in China, the children have to be put away anyway. If a couple has more than one child, the parents have to pay a fine or take care of the kids. Even then it is still wrong. Why would you put a child through hell? A child that was brought up to kill would never live a normal life, everywhere he/she went, they would think of murder. This practice also scars that particular child mentally for life! Children who are used for military use are often used as spies, messengers, look outs, or even sexual slaves. Also children are used as human shields, political advantages, or even propaganda. Many countries break their own cultural rules for use of children. To this day, opinions are divided. Where do you fall!?! A long way gone describes an opinion from a boy that was forced to be a soldier from Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone was and has been inhabited for over 2,500 years. Starting in 1495, Sierra Leone was a capital slave trading point. Although it was doing good, people soon started dying away with disease and hostility of the indigenous people. In 1924 Sir Milton Margai attempted to isolate Sierra Leone into a solo nation. His brother Sir Albert Margai soon inherited the honor.

Sierra Leone affects the United States in many ways. A lot of people in the US adopt children from there, the United states also helps their army or armed forces, what they do have. Sierra Leone has a lot of rebellion of the citizens. Sierra Leone's population in 2009 was 6.4 million. English is the official language spoken and taught in schools but Krio is the most widely spoken language spoken throughout the nation. The predicted average age of people in Sierra Leone is 41 years old.

Rapper's Delight

The hip-hop from back in the day is sooo much different than now... It was a faster beat but not bass faster like today. The vocabulary is very different also!

RUF simply means Revolutionary United Front. This was a rebel army that fought a failed eleven year war in Sierra Leone. An amazing 100,000 child soldiers were reported as participants. Many were and still are being convicted and prosecuted.

Book Review of Wake

Wake is an okay book. It's a very girly book. I could not change books because I had over twenty pages read. This book is about little girl high school drama with boys, booze, and bad news. This girl goes from a shy quiet girl to a partying punk so to speak. The girl gets into the wrong crowd and is worried she will be blamed for the murder. I have only made it so far but I believe she will get caught and blamed for the murder of some kid. Her best friend is trying to save her.

Article 2- Pulling Sherman Alexie's Book

The Absolute True Diary of A Part-time Indian is being debated. Some parents think that this book should be pulled from schools because the vulgarity and graphic like images. I disagree, this book does not actually encourage high school students to have sex or swear, in reality, high school students make their own decisions.

Stressed...

This class has definitely put a lot of stress on me but I made it... Between work and people, I was always feeling like I had to go to a nut house! Other than work really, I would have passed with flying colors. This class is a pretty cool class overall but it does have it's ups and it's downs. English 10 is what people call us. When people ask what class I'm in, I proudly say, Alt. Ed. English. They start laughing but I do enjoy this class!! A lot!
!!!!!I'll Miss Everyone!!!!!
